As humans we are a physical conglomeration of chemical reactions that are constantly discarding and rebuilding as well as a psychic conglomeration of ideas and thoughts that are evolving, growing and ultimately disintegrating simultaneously, both are processes that seem contradictory. My work is meant to capture this idea and the interconnected nature of duality and our ability to perceive. Can we see at once both permanence and impermanence, light and dark, life and death, beautiful and grotesque and how does this change our ability to see the world honestly?

Much of my work is created from materials that naturally embody this idea. Many pieces are made with materials that will, over time, fall apart and ultimately disappear while other parts of the same piece will exist indefinitely. Combining materials like hog gut and porcelain or paper and steel allows me to see first hand how opposites can coexist.
